Paul McCartney has announced his engagement to American Nancy Shevell.
The pair began dating four years ago but have been friends for years – Paul and ex-wife Heather Mills used to spend time with Nancy and her ex-husband. She was also close to Paul’s first wife Linda.People magazine broke the news, quoting a friend as saying The Beatles superstar had proposed in New York last weekend. "Nancy and Paul are getting married. Ring and all – very exciting," they said. "They have the right chemistry. They're both cool, chilled out and optimistic.”
Macca’s spokesman Stuart Bell confirmed the report with a simple statement: "It's true! We’re all thrilled for him."
It’s not thought the couple will sign a pre-nup as Nancy is a multi-millionaire in her own right and heir to a £250m fortune from her family’s freight business. Her husband-to-be is worth an estimated £495m.
Paul's children with his first wife are all said to be close to Nancy and have given their blessing to the union.
Sir Paul’s first marriage lasted nearly 30 years and only ended when wife Linda died of breast cancer. His second marriage to Heather lasted just four years and ended with a bitter court battle and £24m settlement.
