The Beatles' Ringo Starr: 'I still get stage fright'

The Beatles' Ringo Starr has admitted that he still gets stage fright before performing live.

The drummer told Austrian magazine News that although he still loves gigging after more than 50 years in the business, he has a "nervousness" every time he is due to play.

"I feel like running away three seconds before I'm due to hit the stage. That's why I always run on to it. I would love to coolly stroll on stage but I cannot," he commented.
Starr, who turned 71 on Thursday (July 7), is currently touring Europe with his All Star Band under his everlasting Peace And Love motto.

"I love to work. Other bands may play two concerts a week when on tour. I prefer doing five," he continued.

Starr is due to play in Weert in the Netherlands tonight (9), before playing four dates in Germany and wrapping up the jaunt in Vienna, Austria.

Earlier this year, he told NME's sister title Uncut he is in the process of writing a semi-autobiographical record, explaining that he'd rather put his memories to music than write a book about himself.
